Incentivized Recovery: California’s Contingency Management Program for Stimulant Use Disorder

While opioid use continues to dominate substance use prevention and treatment efforts, stimulants are a major contributor to California's overdose crisis. Methamphetamine is steadily rising as the preferred drug of choice across the state and contributes to more than half of drug-related deaths. Contingency management, also known as incentivized recovery, is one of the few evidence-based interventions proven effective for stimulant use disorder. It is an evidence-based behavioral therapy that offers individuals with tangible rewards (e.g., gift cards, vouchers, or prizes) for meeting treatment goals. Join us Wednesday, August 12, from 11:00 a.m. –12:30 p.m. PT, as Thomas Freese, Ph.D., director of the UCLA Integrated Substance Use and Addiction Programs (ISAP), shares an overview of current stimulant trends in California and an update on the state's Recovery Incentives Program, the contingency management benefit available through CalAIM's Medicaid 1115 Demonstration. Bring your questions and register today.
