Shattering the Stigma of Substance Use Disorders

Unlike other chronic diseases, substance use disorders (SUD) are often seen as a moral failing. This stigma deeply impacts everyone including individuals, families, and communities. It also presents major barriers to ensure access to life-saving overdose prevention services and treatment. Join us on December 11, 2024 from 11:30 am - 12:30 pm PT, to learn from Leslie Alfaro, the National Stigma Initiative Program Manager at Shatterproof. Leslie will outline the real-world impact of stigma through data findings from Shatterproof’s recent nationwide survey on addiction stigma, the largest survey on attitudes towards SUD. Participants will also learn practical steps they can take to help identify and combat stigma in their organizations and communities. This Web Forum is sponsored by the National Overdose Prevention Network, a program of PHI Center for Health Leadership & Impact and produced by Dialogue4Health. Spread the word and register today!

COPN Workshop: Crafting a Persuasive Narrative, Part 2 – Building Memorable and Actionable Story Arcs

Persuasive narratives use storytelling and a human touch to introduce your work, win support and grab the attention of your audiences. In this two-part series, award-winning communications professional Michael Miller will show you how to build a persuasive narrative that adds humanity to your work so you can propel your communications efforts forward.

In part II, you’ll learn why humans listen to, remember and react to real-life stories and how to use that knowledge to build an argument for your issues and causes. Using the tried-and-true story arc as a model, you’ll be introduced to the components of every good story and how to construct and present those stories to win support for your work. Mr. Miller will walk you through a series of simple exercises designed to help you construct impactful stories based on your own experiences. By the end of the class, you’ll walk away with your own persuasive narrative to maximize your programs’ impact and reputation.
